Incident Preparedness: Are Cyber Incidents on the Rise?

Cyberattacks are becoming more frequent and sophisticated, driven by emerging threat actors, highly targeted ransomware attacks and the ongoing digital transformation of businesses. These factors underscore the critical need for robust incident response preparedness across organisations where cultivating a security-first culture will be a key priority for leaders in 2025.

Gartner research1 highlights that Gen AI can also significantly reduce cybersecurity incidents: Organisations that integrate the technology into platform-based security behaviour and culture programmes are projected to experience a 40% reduction in employee-driven cyber incidents by 2026.

Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, here are some of the latest predictions relevant to incident response:

Through 2025, generative AI will cause a spike of cybersecurity resources required to secure it, causing more than a 15% incremental spend on application and data security.2

By 2028, the adoption of generative augments will collapse the skills gap, removing the need for specialised education from 50% of entry-level cybersecurity positions.3

By 2028, multiagent AI in threat detection and incident response will rise from 5% to 70% of AI implementations to primarily augment, not replace staff.4
