Following the success and positive feedback of Adarma’s 2022 ‘Get Started in Cybersecurity’ programme, we are delighted to share that we have just welcomed our second intake to our Edinburgh office.
Delivered in partnership with the Prince’s Trust, this two-week skills development programme is designed to help vulnerable young people and members of the neurodiverse community gain the skills and confidence to secure a better future.
Similar to last year, the participants were provided with a comprehensive learning experience, including a combination of classroom instruction, one-on-one mentoring, and hands-on training. Throughout the programme, Adarma team members from various departments, including the Adarma SOC, consultancy, security engineering, and learning and development, were on hand to share their experiences and knowledge of the cybersecurity industry, with a strong focus on exposing participants to different roles and functions within a security team.
Our team members took time to go into detail with the group about the security challenges businesses face and the solutions used to address these issues.
You can learn more about last year’s programme here and see what our participants had to say about their experience. We are delighted to report that several of them have gone on to higher education in the field of cybersecurity.
“I took part in the Get Started in Cybersecurity programme because I thought it would help me gain new skills and move into a field that I am passionate about. I’ve been interested in computers from a young age and want to learn more about cybersecurity. I’ve enjoyed my week at Adarma, and everyone has been so friendly and welcoming.
“My favourite part of the week was meeting Eduard Doroskevic from the consulting team. It was fascinating to get an insight into what the team does daily. I want to continue learning about cybersecurity following this course, so I plan to apply for a cybersecurity college course in the new year.”
– Leon Henderson
“I found it very interesting to discover the various paths one can take to become a cybersecurity professional and to meet experts in the field who have followed different career trajectories. I feel grateful for the opportunity to have taken this course, as I have learned a lot. My favourite part of the week was learning about the SOC. It has inspired me to consider the possibility of becoming a SOC Analyst myself someday.
“Now that I have had this experience, I feel motivated to do further research into the different areas of cybersecurity to help me decide on the specific field I want to focus on. I had no idea that there were so many possibilities available.”
– Bradley Smith
“I am thrilled by the positive feedback we received from our second group of participants. Witnessing the curiosity and enthusiasm for our industry from individuals new to cybersecurity was not only inspiring but also invigorating. The ripple effect of their positive attitude has been palpable throughout the entire office, and I take immense pride in Adarma’s pivotal role and the collective effort of our team in bringing forth this innovative skills development programme.
The ongoing digital skills gap underscores the importance of fostering more opportunities like this within the cyber community. Building awareness of careers in cybersecurity is crucial, and we must reconsider and reshape our recruitment approach to tap into a broader pool of exceptional talent. A commitment to inclusivity and education will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and dynamism of the cybersecurity field.”
– John Maynard, Adarma CEO
The overarching goal of this initiative is to promote diversity and inclusivity in the cybersecurity industry and to address the digital skills shortage, a core tenet of Adarma’s ESG strategy.
By creating awareness and facilitating access to cybersecurity careers, we believe that we can support generating more opportunities for individuals who may have previously thought that a career in cybersecurity was out of reach for them.
